Antidote1848 Haircare Review

Antidote1848 Haircare Review

Hi girls! How is your weekend? Mine was a bit slow but I am quite excited about Monday. Monday morning blues are something I don’t feel that often. It’s the midweek that gets on my nerve lol. Anyway, I am presenting you a brand that I really want to support. The brand is Antidote1848 – it is a brand born in the midwest, in the state of Wisconsin. ANTIDOTE is meant to be an alternative to harsh chemicals and artificial ingredients. 1848 comes from the year that Wisconsin became a state, the place that inspired the line. Wisconsin – the birthplace of Earth Day – provides the honest, straight-forward inspiration for the line. If you are not aware, I am a big supporter of local businesses over big brands.

Now that we know about the brand, let’s get in touch with the faces behind the brand. Abigail Kuehl, boutique salon owner, a master stylist wanted to create products that meant to improve scalp balance, follicle health and strengthen hair – all these without using any harsh chemicals. On the other hand, David Calle – a former head of strategy at Unilever connected with Abigail’s vision to develop a clean professional line of personal care products.

All the products developed by Antidote1848 has Texas aloe vera, Wisconsin ginseng, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, vitamins B5 and E as the primary ingredients.

Let’s see what I tried and what’s my opinion.

Antidote 1848 Keratin Shampoo & Antidote 1848 Keratin Conditioner

The shampoo’s consistency is unlike the usual shampoos – it is slightly thin and has a watery base. The conditioner was different too. It is the not the super creamy chemical conditioner but a very thick off-white gooey product. The experience using an all natural shampoo and condition were quite different for me. It took me over 5 washes to get used to the feel. The shampoo doesn’t lather much and you may find it difficult to understand the fact that your hair is cleansed even without much lather. I used to use like 3 pumps of the product in the beginning but now I just use a single pump. I have fine thin medium length hair and with 1 pump, I totally feel my hair is cleansed well. It does have a strong natural scent to it. I am trying to put in words but I am unable to – it is very organic yet pleasant.

The Antidote shampoo did give me nice volume however my oily scalp refuses to stay dry for long. I shampoo my hair thrice a week and I am totally ok with it. The conditioner is not a must for me as I already have an oily scalp. However, I do use conditioner twice a week but just to the hair ends. It leaves my hair soft and shiny without weighing it down.

Antidote Avocado Hair + Beard Oil

This product is loved by me and my husband, mostly my husband. He uses it to tame his beard and on his hair before washing it. I use it to massage my scalp. Smells great and it is very soothing.

Antidote Charcoal Face & Body Wash

This product worked nice for my face but for my body, I felt it made my body initially dry but now I got used to it. Since the primary ingredient is Charcoal, the color of the product is grey-black. Again, the smell is pretty strong but is refreshing.

Also, I just wanted to show you how they package their products.

Overall, I totally recommend this combination to anyone wanting to incorporate more chemical free products in their personal care. It definitely takes a few trials to make the body habituated with these products but when you know you are not going to use chemicals, it’s good, right?

ps
I tried linking the official webpages where you can buy the products ( explains the reason why I skipped description, pricing etc.)  Also, these products were sent to me in exchange for an honest review. Please read my disclaimer to know more.
